What is Mensa?

Mensa is a social organization where the only requirements for joining are that the individual scores in the top 2% of the population on any one of more than 200 accepted, standardized intelligence tests.


What is the purpose of Mensa?

From the Constitution of Mensa, there are three main purposes of Mensa:

  1. Identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity.
  2. Encourage research in the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence.
  3. Provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for members.

What is a typical Mensan?

American Mensa has a very diverse group of members ranging in age from 2 to 106 years of age. This includes students, homemakers, engineers, lawyers, physicians, teachers, actors, athletes, CEOs, scientists, and virtually every walk of life. While many of our adult members are college graduates, some have no college. There are members of every race, ethnicity, different religious beliefs, different political backgrounds


Why do people join Mensa?

Firt and foremost, Mensa is a social group. People join for many different reasons, but most join for the comraderie, to be around people they can communicate with. Some join for the ability to network with other Mensans.


Are there other benefits to being a Mensa member?

Along with the intellectual and social activities, members recieve discounts on products and services including magazine subscriptions, insurance and travel as well as some tech products like Dell and HP.
